Issah Meade and Ian Squires win states
Ian Squires, a senior at Colonial Forge in Virginia and headed to Boston University next season, earned his first high school state title two weekends ago. Ian garnered gold in the 130 lb. division (concluding a Colonial Forge 1-2-3 sweep from 119-130). After blasting his first two opponents on Friday, he then won 3-0 in the semi's and 3-2 in the finals where he surrendered his only earned points of the weekend. Ian a.k.a. Ivan Squi-rez was runner-up as a frosh, 6th as a soph (both placings at AA) then 3rd as a junior and CHAMPION as a senior (both AAA).
Issah Meade, a 15 yr old sophomore out of Caesar Rodney HS in Delaware earned his first title last weekend. The 152 pound low single specialist was sniper sharp in conquering all comers on the weekend. Issah finished off his opponent in the finals 25-10 with a series of rub the tummy spin behinds. Issah's closest match was a 22-8 match on Friday (the day before the finals).
Two great performances by two of our out of state talents ---- following in the footsteps of phenoms that preceeded them
(Cody Gardner/VA & Alex Meade/DE - both 2X ASICS 1st teamers).
Here is a pre-state tourney article featuring Issah:
